Given a 2D board and a word, find if the word exists in the grid.
The word can be constructed from letters of sequentially adjacent cell, where "adjacent" cells are those horizontally or vertically neighboring. The same letter cell may not be used more than once.
For example,
Given board =
Given board =
[ ["ABCE"], ["SFCS"], ["ADEE"] ]word =
"ABCCED"
, -> returns true
,word =
"SEE"
, -> returns true
,word =
"ABCB"
, -> returns false
.Analysis:
The idea of this question is as follows:
(1) Find the 1st element of the word in the board.
(2) For each position found where the 1st element lies, recursively do:
(i) Search the around cell to see if the next element exists. (4 directions: (i-1,j),(i+1,j),(i,j-1),(i,j+1) )
(ii) If the word ends, return true.
(3) Return false if no matching found.
Note: A mask matrix is needed to store the positions where have already been visited. Details can be found in code.
Code:
class Solution { public: bool search(vector<vector<char> > &board, int i,int j,string str,vector<vector<bool> > &mask){ if (str.size()==0){return true;} else{ if ((i>0)&&(board[i-1][j]==str[0])&&(mask[i-1][j]==false)){ mask[i-1][j]=true; if (search(board,i-1,j,str.substr(1),mask)){ return true; } mask[i-1][j]=false; } if ((i<board.size()-1)&&(board[i+1][j]==str[0])&&(mask[i+1][j]==false)){ mask[i+1][j]=true; if (search(board,i+1,j,str.substr(1),mask)){ return true; } mask[i+1][j]=false; } if ((j>0)&&(board[i][j-1]==str[0])&&(mask[i][j-1]==false)){ mask[i][j-1]=true; if (search(board,i,j-1,str.substr(1),mask)){ return true; } mask[i][j-1]=false; } if ((j<board[0].size()-1)&&(board[i][j+1]==str[0])&&(mask[i][j+1]==false)){ mask[i][j+1]=true; if (search(board,i,j+1,str.substr(1),mask)){ return true; } mask[i][j+1]=false; } } return false; } bool exist(vector<vector<char> > &board, string word) { // Start typing your C/C++ solution below // DO NOT write int main() function if (word.size()==0) {return false;} for (int i=0;i<board.size();i++){ for (int j=0;j<board[0].size();j++){ if (word[0]==board[i][j]){ if (word.size()==1) {return true;} else{ vector<vector<bool> > mask(board.size(),vector<bool>(board[0].size(),false)); mask[i][j]=true; if (search(board,i,j,word.substr(1),mask)){ return true; } } } } } return false; } };
Hi dude, I have to say this post is great and the idea is clear and concise. One only improvement might be, you may want to try add mask[i][j]=false; to unset current flag at line 53 right after we return false from search. In this way, you could safely remve line 49, which may be expensive.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, the extra space for mark array is not necessary. I've found some other posts which used the original space of board to mark if the element has been read.
Deletei think that the above recommendation by Jerry Li is quite helpful.
